These are the terms you agree to by using Off My Plate. They're written to be read rather than to be impressive, and the parts that could actually affect you — food safety and billing — are near the top rather than buried.
If you don't agree with them, please don't use the app.
Off My Plate is operated by Rebecca Fiss, a sole proprietor in the United States. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean her, and "you" means you. The contact for anything here is offmyplateapp@gmail.com.
This is the most important section in this document. Please actually read it.
Mae is an AI. She is good at suggesting dinner, and she will sometimes be wrong, including about things that matter. She isn't a doctor, a dietitian, a nutritionist, or a food safety inspector, and nothing she says is medical or nutritional advice.
The app lets you record allergies and dietary restrictions, and Mae does her best to respect them. She cannot be relied on to catch every allergen in every suggestion, and neither can any AI. If someone at your table has an allergy or a medical dietary requirement, you must check the actual ingredients yourself, every time. Don't treat a suggestion from Mae as confirmation that a meal is safe for them.
For anything medical, including a serious allergy, talk to a qualified professional. This app is not a substitute for that.
When you don't have a printed date, the app works out a best-by month from an AI estimate of how long that kind of food usually keeps. That's an estimate and a convenience, not a food safety guarantee. It doesn't know how your freezer runs, whether the power went out, or how the food was handled before you froze it.
Use your own judgment, follow proper food handling and storage practice, and refer to official guidance such as the USDA's. If something looks or smells wrong, throw it out, regardless of what the app says.
You're responsible for cooking food properly, including cooking meat, poultry, fish, and eggs to safe internal temperatures, and for using your kitchen safely. The dishes and steps in the app are a starting point, not a guarantee that following them produces a safe result.
The meals you save, the recipes you add, the photos you upload, and everything you tell Mae remain yours. We don't claim ownership of any of it.
To actually run the app, we need your permission to store it, display it back to you, and send the relevant parts to the AI providers described in the privacy policy so Mae can answer. You give us that permission for that purpose only, and it ends when you delete the content or your account. The one exception is a bug report you chose to send, including any screenshot attached to it, which is kept so the problem can still be fixed; the privacy policy explains exactly what happens to those.
Only add content you have the right to add. If you paste in a recipe from somewhere else, that's for your own use in your own plan; don't use the app to republish someone else's copyrighted material.
Off My Plate is a paid subscription that starts with a free trial. This section is the whole of how the money works, in plain terms.
A subscription renews by itself each month, and the card on file is charged each month, until you cancel it. That's the whole of the commitment: there's no minimum term and no cancellation fee.
Please do not:
Because AI requests genuinely cost money to serve, there may be reasonable limits on how much you can use in a day. Normal use of the app won't hit them.
This is a small, actively built app run by one person. Features will be added, changed, and sometimes removed. There's no guaranteed uptime, and it may occasionally be unavailable, whether planned or not.
If Off My Plate is ever shut down, you'll be given reasonable notice and a way to get your information out first, and any subscription you have paid for beyond that point will be refunded.
You can stop using the app whenever you like, and you can ask for your account and everything in it to be deleted by emailing offmyplateapp@gmail.com. What happens to your information then is covered in the privacy policy.
Your account may be suspended or closed if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, for example by attacking the app or by using it to harm someone. Except where that's not sensible, such as an ongoing security problem, you'll be told why and given a chance to respond first.
The app is provided "as is." To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind about it, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that anything Mae suggests will be accurate, suitable, or safe for your situation.
Some places don't allow these exclusions, in which case they don't apply to you and you may have rights that these terms can't take away.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of substitute services, arising out of your use of the app.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that can't legally be excluded, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Again, some places don't allow these limits, in which case they don't apply to you.
These terms may change as the app grows. The date at the top changes when they do. If a change materially affects you, in particular anything about billing, you'll be told in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version, and if you don't want the new version, you can cancel and stop using it.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts located in North Carolina will have jurisdiction over any dispute. This doesn't remove any protection you have under the mandatory consumer law of the place you live.
Before anything formal, please just email offmyplateapp@gmail.com. Nearly everything is faster to fix that way, and a real person will read it.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them still stand.
Anything at all about these terms: offmyplateapp@gmail.com.
Off My Plate is run by one person. If any of this is unclear, or you want something explained in plainer words, email offmyplateapp@gmail.com and you will get a real answer.
